Zags, Gaels even at half

Gonzaga trailed by as many as nine, but the Bulldogs rallied to pull even, 36-36, with Saint Mary’s at half.

Josh Heytvelt had 12 points and Matt Bouldin 11 for the 19th-ranked Bulldogs, who were sluggish offensively and made just 12 of 30 field-goal attempts (40 percent). Gonzaga was called for 12 fouls, forcing coach Mark Few to substitute liberally. Ira Brown has three fouls. Demetri Goodson, Micah Downs and Austin Daye each have two.

Jeremy Pargo committed three of Gonzaga’s six turnovers. Heytvelt had seven rebounds and was 5 of 6 at the foul line.

Wayne Hunter hit three 3-pointers and made all three free throws after being fouled on a 3-point attempt. He led Saint Mary’s with 13 points.
