We’ll see how we fare, Regional begins

The Lewis and Clark-Pasco boys basketball game concludes tonight’s first round of the regional basketball playoffs, but it could be a litmus test for our chances when the CBBN 6 take on the GSL 2.

“Pasco is a horrible matchup for us and we’re a horrible matchup for Pasco,” said coach Jeff Norton.

The Bulldogs have no size, 6-foot-1 the biggest, but have piled up the points of late. They’ll press and shoot the 3-pointer, while the Tigers hope to counter with their size and patience. How they fare will tell us how good the that league is compared to ours.

“This week we talked about the football players winning state,” said Norton. “At one point in the season when they weren’t winning league, they caught lightning in a bottle for five weeks. We had a rough go, got things sorted out and caught lightning in a bottle.”

Maybe the magic will continue.

LC’s girls are in Walla Walla and that will also compare talent. Gonzaga Prep boys and Mead girls are at home tonight at 6 p.m. for local prep fans. Also on the road are Mt. Spokane boys and girls hoping to avoid 3A regional elimination. The boys are in 11-11 Sunnyside, the girls at 16-6 Hanford. North Central boys host Rogers and East Valley girls host North Central in other loser-out games.

GPrep got whipped by a better coached, more disciplined Richland team. It wasn’t close. Prep’s 5 coaches could not hold a candle to the head man from Richland. Prep turned the ball over endlessly, sometimes twice on the same time down the court! Shooters couldn’t shoot, big men didn’t box out and point guard was a turnover waiting to happen. Prep looked like a complete team during the year but they had a couple of fatal flaws: too many coaches and a selfish point guard and it showed tonight.

Jimmyball- Pretty accurate assessment. If that team is going to survive the rest of regionals they have to use their bigs. I didnt see one entry pass to the post the entire second half. That combined with poor outside shooting was a recipe for disaster. They better figure out things and quick. Should have went to the Rogers game.
