Lewiston (13-5 overall, 5-4 league) gave No. 1-ranked and defending state champ Coeur d’Alene (19-0, 10-0) all it could handle Tuesday at Booth Hall.

Vikings senior guard Kama Griffitts, who had a game-high 29 points, scored the final two baskets as Coeur d’Alene escaped with a 58-54 win. It was CdA’s tightest game since early January.

It was CdA’s 23rd straight win, a streak dating back to last season.

Lewiston coach Pat Teichmer told Lewiston Tribune reporter Matt Baney that he thought his team played better than the Vikings.

“We played the best team we see - the defending state champs - and I thought we outplayed team,” Teichmer said. “We just didn’t get more points than they did.”
