Monday morning Vandal notes

Just a few things to pass along here. Robb Akey said this morning that LB Paul Senescall (concussion) should be available to play against Fresno State while the status of CB Isaac Butts (hamstring) is still in doubt. Both players missed last week’s game. Also, freshman kick returner Justin Veltung was named WAC special teams player of the week. He took the opening kickoff back 94 yards for a touchdown against Louisiana Tech.

One last note: Akey raved about Fresno tailback Ryan Mathews, the leading rusher in the nation. “To say you’re going to go in there and stonewall this guy, you’re crazy to say that,” Akey said. The coach said the Vandals can only to try to limit his big runs and have the defense match them with a few big plays of its own. Idaho entertains FSU at 7:30 Saturday night. The game is on ESPNU.
