Zags tip off against Alberta

It’s game time, sort of. GU opens tonight with an exhibition game against the University of Alberta at the MAC.

A short, short preview below and updates on ex-Zags in the NBA.

Gonzaga entertains the University of Alberta in a men’s basketball exhibition game tonight at 6 at the McCarthey Athletic Center.

Alberta coach Greg Francis served as head coach of Canada’s junior national team, which included Bulldogs freshmen Mangisto Arop and Kelly Olynyk and Alberta freshmen Jordan Baker and Robert Dewar. In his first season as Alberta’s coach, Francis has just four returning players, including 2008-09 starters Scott Leigh, Harvey Bradford and Sahr Saffa.

The Golden Bears (4-4) are coming off wins over Lethbridge on Friday and Saturday.

—Bulldog (corrected: sophomore) forward Bol Kong (ankle) isn’t expected to play.

—Much more on the opener here, and all you want to know about the Golden Bears can be found here.

—Ex-Zag Austin Daye has played 1 minute and 11 seconds in Detroit’s first three games. Daye’s only entry on the stat sheet is a personal foul. The Pistons are 1-2. Team stats here.

—The Lakers have decided not to offer former Zag Adam Morrison a contract extension. More here. Like Daye, Morrison has appeared in just one of three games. He played three minutes and missed his only shot attempt.

—Finally, ex-Zag Ronny Turiaf is day-to-day with sprained knee. More here. Turiaf’s stats can be found here.
