Zags fall by 4

Gonzaga led most of the way, but Durrell Summers’ 3-pointer with 3 minutes left gave Michigan State a lead it wouldn’t relinquish and the Spartans won, 75-71.

Summers had 21 points and Kalin Lucas 19 for MSU. Robert Sacre and Elias Harris each scored 17 for Gonzaga. Matt Bouldin added 15 points.

Check back for the game story in about 45 minutes.

Either the Zags are a top 10 team or MSU is not a top 25 team! Which is it? Great game.

It was a great game! I think they're somewhere in the middle, Mike, probably both in the top 20, but MSU did not look like a #2 team to me.

Getting a late start on posts this year-coming off neck surgery a couple months back so hello regulars. Very pleased with the ability to get up & stay up for a tough game with so many new players seeing extended minutes. Half-court defense was very impressive up and down the bench. Looks like offensive poise & shot selection will be huge this year. Will have to check recording but it seemed that all of MSU's runs were triggered & sustained by pressing/rushing/forcing shots on the offensive end. Probably influenced by new players getting a bit excited at first time on national stage & veteran guards feeling the need to carry the bulk of scoring (haven't checked box score yet but Stephen was like 1 for 8 deep for example); when they realize staying within the system is the best way to extend leads & now that our guards have seen here & in TX scrimmage that the bigs will be consistant scorers in big games so the scoring load can be spread around, this has the makings of a scary-good squad. It was certainly clear just how much last year's squad missed Sacre's post presence.

Great game by the Zags considering all the fresh new faces, who they wer playing and where they were playing. If Sacre and Olynick stay out of foul trouble that is at least a 10 point win. Meech needs to score. He played awfully hard but it's tough to have your point play almost 30 minutes and end up with the line: 1 assist, 2 turnovers and 1 point. Throw in the tough shooting night for Gray & Bouldin it's amzing they lost by only 4.

Good morning everyone! I thought it was a great game and I agree with the pressure on the new freshmen. You could tell when the got the ball they were pressured and rushed to get rid of it and that will change with experience. If we could have stayed out of foul trouble we would have won the game. There foul shots put them over and above the top. The ZAGS will have a good team this year I am sure. Just need to get some experience for the new guys.
