Keep your ticket stub from WSU’s win

COUGARS

The announced attendance in Beasley Coliseum last night was 5,399. It seemed like less than that. But down the road, when Klay Thompson’s name is mentioned among the greats of WSU basketball – and it will be – you know you’ll run into about 10,000 people who will tell you they were in Beasley when Thompson scored 37 against that Indiana team. We have our game story and a few more notes on the link, so read on.

••••••••••

• Washington State: Before we get into the links, just wanted to pass on a couple of items. … The NCAA released its “graduation success rate” this week. Not to get too technical and junk, it calculates a six-year graduation rate for college athletic teams – if an athlete transfers in good academic standing, they don’t hurt – and compares it to the school as a whole. At WSU, 63 percent of the students graduated in that time, compared to the national average of 62 percent. Among Cougar athletics, the number was 72 percent. Stanford led the Pac-10 with 94 percent and UW was second at 84 percent. The Cardinal also graduated the most football players (85 percent) with WSU fourth at 58 percent. … Also, we want to remind you, in case you missed it, we had these notes from football practice yesterday. … Back to basketball. Here’s our post from last night, with more on the game and a longer story. Here’s what appeared in the S-R. … Freelancer Howie Stalwick had this story in the Kitsap Sun and other papers.

• Around the Pac-10: Looking for work? ESPN.com’s Ted Miller has this want ad. … Buster Sports Nick Daschel has his picks. Check out his record vs. the line. … Finally, should have passed this on yesterday when I was laughing at it, but here it is. The UO marketing department hates this video. … Washington: Bye week. Bye to stories. … Oregon State: A record-breaking season for the Beavers’ offense and it hasn’t faced WSU yet. …. Oregon: The Ducks can’t avoid Rose Bowl talk. … Or LeGarrette Blount talk. … California: As the Bears have evolved, so has coach Jeff Tedford. … Stanford: Toby Gerhart’s stock is still rising. … USC: A bye week means one thing: recruiting. Think Pete Carroll is selling the chance to revitalize a program? …UCLA: I can’t say anything smarmy because I do it to. Rick Neuheisel tweets. … Arizona State: They picked a starting quarterback at ASU. I won’t even try to pronounce his name. … Arizona: The fact ESPN is in town is a big deal in Tucson. I mean a big deal.

• That’s it for this morning. We’ll be back this afternoon with our Saturday items. Until then …
