Gonzaga 17th in AP poll

Gonzaga is back in the polls — 17th in the A.P, 16th in the ESPN/USA Today. WCC rival Portland made the A.P. poll at No. 25.

UPDATE: It’s the Pilots first time in the rankings in 50 years.

Portland was just outside the Top 25 in the ESPN/USA Today poll at 28th and Saint Mary’s also received votes. Washington State, GU’s opponent Wednesday in the Kennel, received votes in both polls.

Whoa! GU and Portland? Where’s the love for the PAC-10? WSU should’ve been right there also. They hammered a fair USD team to win the AK shootout. Undefeated and headed to the Kennel.

    Hi Mike,

Yeah, I don’t understand a lot of this ranking and how they come up with it. There is to much involved with each team with offense, defense, new players, travel, amount of games played in a week, the team that they are playing against, etc. A great team could have a terrible night and yet a bad team could be playing an AAA+ night. It is not a job that I would like to have that is for sure.

I still think the ZAGS can beat Portland and St Mary’s and I think we should be able to win the conference as well. Not saying it is going to be a cake walk but I think the ZAGS will pull through. Seems like Portland had a lot of hustle last night but were not in sync with a lot of it at the end. They have a great team though.

Have a good week. Have to go to Dallas later this week so will miss the GU/Wake Forest game. Have a great week everyone.

It’ll be interesting to see what the Cougars are ranked after they stomp the Zags. What? A little trash talking never hurt…

    Yeah Mike,

Doesn’t make sense to me, WSU is 6-0 and won the Great Alaska Shootout and only getting a few points on both rankings. Hard top figure!!!!

Don’t hold your breath waiting for that stomping!

But I just saw the forecast, steady rain of Klay Thompson 3s coming down all night on Wednesday.

I’m not surprised WSU isn’t ranked. They may be 6 - 0, but who have they beaten? None of the teams on their schedule are exactly high caliber - only one has a winning record and that’s San Diego.

Still, I’m looking forward to Wednesday because I think the Zags/Cougs game will be a hard fought game - rivalry games usually are!

    Hey MikeSequim,
Want to watch the game at 7 Cedars, you can root for your beloved Zags and I’ll root for the upstart Cougs…I have no affiliation with either of the NW schools, but like the exposure the big 3 bring. Calling you out. Teaching the wife how to increase her odds at slot winning, after years of paying the rent at the 7. Bradley010a, forcast calls for Sunny and cool throughout the week almost like eastern WA. here in Port Angeles. Klay not going to drop 45 on the Zags, they’ll man up on him and deny, but’ll love to see it, what a talent/stroke. Too bad both teams can’t win.
