Idaho a lock for H-Bowl?

WAC commissioner Karl Benson this morning detailed possibilities for bowl-eligible teams in the WAC, and it appears Idaho is a near-lock to go to the Humanitarian Bowl on Dec. 30 in Boise. If Hawaii loses to Wisconsin, Fresno State and Nevada will either go to the New Mexico or Hawaii Bowls. And if Texas beats Nebraska in the Big 12 title game, Benson said it’s a “foregone conclusion” that Boise State gets into the BCS.

Even if Hawaii were to pull an upset, the WAC has a backup agreement in place with the GMAC Bowl to ensure all five bowl-eligible teams (assuming BSU is in the BCS) would find postseason homes, Benson said. When asked if Idaho can start printing tickets to the H-Bowl, Benson said, “I don’t think we’re quite there. … I don’t think we’re ready to make an announcement until we know who the oppenent will be.”

Idaho (7-5) is looking for its first bowl berth since 1998 — when it also played in the Humanitarian Bowl.
