Cowen gets penalty in NHL debut

Spokane Chiefs defenseman and captain Jared Cowen played 6-minutes, 46-seconds his National Hockey League debut with the Ottawa Senators Thursday night.

The Senators' firsts-round pick last June picked up a penalty in the 4-3 shoot-out loss at Tampa Bay.

Ottawa had Cowen join the team after the Chiefs were eliminated from the Western Hockey League playoffs last week but didn't decide to play him in a game until Thursday.

The Senators have one more game, Saturday at home against Buffalo, before the playoffs.
