Guard Marquise Carter commits to GU

Three Rivers Community College guard Marquise Carter said Thursday he has verbally committed to the Gonzaga men’s basketball program.

It was no secret Gonzaga’s first priority in recruiting was a guard. The 6-foot-4 Carter, who played point guard while leading Three Rivers (Poplar Bluff, Mo.) to a runner-up finish at the national tournament in Hutchinson, Kan,, was an NJCAA first-team All-American this season and a second-team selection last season. Carter scored 35 points in Three Rivers’ overtime loss to Howard in the NJCAA title game.

Carter is the first commitment of GU’s 2010 class.

I just spoke to Carter and I’ll have a story up in about 45 minutes or so.
