It’s just another Saturday in the college football season, right? Nothing important happening today, right? What, it’s Apple Cup Saturday? And it’s a big deal? Well, OK. I’ll take your word on it. As far as I’m concerned, it’s a big day of notes and links, so read on.

• Washington State: This week we’ve started each day with a weather report. Why change? It’s cold. Clear and cold. About 22 degrees this morning when we got up and should be about 27 at kickoff. But no snow, unless Bill Moos has hired a plane to seed the few clouds outside. … Let’s start with last night’s basketball game. Here is our story which covers the nuts and bolts. And here is John Blanchette’s column. … Bud Withers had this story in the Times, Brian Floyd had this coverage at CougCenter and here is the AP coverage. If it wasn’t Apple Cup day, I would probably sit down and go into the chance for a eye-opening upset the Cougars’ squandered, but we have to move on or this post won’t be up until noon. … And we move on to football. … We have our advance which centers on the running game on the UW side and Jeff Tuel on the WSU side. Guess you could say those are the two elements I see as being crucial for each team today. … We also look at four other areas that are crucial. … This Apple Cup holds special significance for Washington and the Times’ Bob Condotta believes the Huskies will win. … Todd Milles has this advance in the News Tribune. … Finally, we wanted to share again Moos’ letter to donors about Martin Stadium.

• Around the Pac-10: ESPN.com’s Ted Miller shares the injury report and examines Jeff Tedford’s future. … San Jose’s Jon Wilner picks WSU, but, remember, he’s not much over .500 this season. … Washington: We covered the Huskies above. … Oregon State: Which Beavers will be key today? … Both teams have a lot to play for. … Oregon: The Ducks’ owner, er, main booster talks with the Oregonian. … The Ducks say they are not looking past OSU. … Cal: Another take on Tedford and his future. … Stanford: The Cardinal expect to play in a BCS bowl. … USC: This rivalry game still has some meaning … UCLA: … except it only matters in LA. … Arizona State: No waiver for the Sun Devils, so no bowl game. … Arizona: The Wildcats are going bowling, but where is still up in the air.

• That’s it for this morning. We’ll be back before the game today. Until then …

Hoping the Cougs win! Guessing: UW 31…….WSU 20. Expecting a HARD played game.

Good morning, Vince,
I’m another “lurker” who reads the blog a few times daily (no tweets!) and just wanted to thank you for all of your coverage. No matter what happens today, I hope Moos will keep CPW for one more year for all of those reasons that have been written before. I was as the Oregon game and felt so proud of the Cougs–they looked better than I have seen for years. It was fun to see the growing concern on the Oregon sideline. Early the next morning, I ran into Wulff as he was recruiting and was impressed by his intensity and emotion. He’s a Coug–lets get behind him.
Go Cougs!

Wow, a couple of the comments from UW fans on the Jon Wilner piece:
“I am such a homer that I can’t see Wazzu beating U-Dub.
Anyone else think it’d be great if WSU went to the Mountain West and the Pac added Hawaii or SDSU?”
“I’m with Chris M. Although it will be a close game, I highly doubt that Wazzu will pull it out. I bet they play tough for 3 Q’s, then Coug it at the end.
I’d love to drop Wazzu and pick up SDSU (I’m a bit biased because my wife’s a SDSU alumna). They way they played this season gives me hope that they’ve got a solid base on which to build. Now that the MWC is no longer a gimme their record (and the game they played, but lost, at TCU) and their SoCal location make me think they’d be a quality addition to the Pac-12 in place of Wazzu.
Q:How do you neuter a Coug?
A:Kick his sister in the jaw! Mwahahhahaaaa!!!!”
I’m sure there are much worse comments out there too. But how does UW go from thinking the sky is falling for nearly all of the Cal game to, thanks to a 4th down touchdown as time expires, being on top of the world and not only are they going to crush us but we don’t even belong in the Pac 10?? Any one else sick of hearing that WSU should be “dropped” from the PAC 10/12? Time to rise-up boys. Take no mercy with those mutts today. All of Cougar Nation is behind you.

GoCoug05,
The arrogance of the mutts will never stop. It was true 40 years ago when I was in Pullman, it is true today and always will be. They have at best an average team, but think of themselves as world beaters. They are what they are. Chumps.
GO COUGS! WIN THE APPLE CUP AND SEND THEM HOME MISERABLE.

I’ve been listening to KJR (the Dawgs network flagship station) all week. Yesterday their mid-morning guy (Softy Muller, makes me wanna puke, such a homer he has to wipe the drool off his chin every time he talks to a current or former Dawg player) and Matt Millen were talking about how much more tallented the Dawgs are and that the Cougs have “no chance.” They also talked about how fast the Husky turnaround has happened and what a successful season it’s been with the Holiday Bowl around the corner. Big talk considering how horrible that UW - Cal game was last Saturday. One of the former Dawg wide receivers said on KJR that the Huskies would win through devine intervention. Gawd I hope we get snow, and the Cougs chain the damned Dawgs. I wanna see Kaufusi and Mizell have half a dozen meetings at the QB today.
Considering they went 0-11 just a few years ago, and that we’ve won half the Apple Cups in the past decade, the talk of the Cougs dropping out of the Pac 10/12 is precious, just shows how much they fear us. I think that wearing purple has caused a wave of mental instbility in Mutt Town.
GO COUGS, GO CPW, GO COACH BALL AND COACH STURDY. CALL A GREAT DAY OF PLAYS AND ADD TO THE MUTT’S MISERY.
