A year ago Jared Spurgeon was playing hockey for the Spokane Chiefs and fighting for his professional life. He had been drafted by wasn't signed. He had a great season, got a free agent try-out with Minnesota, was invited to camp, signed a contract and sent to Houston in the AHL.
