I’ve been spending the last couple hours putting together the story about Jim Sterk leaving Washington State University of San Diego State of the Mountain West Conference. • WSU has hired veteran coach Dave Ungerer as special teams coordinator, filling the position left vacant when Steve Broussard moved to Arizona State this week. Ungerer has coached at nine schools, including last season at Elon University in North Carolina. Before that, Ungerer was at Oregon State for two seasons and has also coached in the Pac-10 at Cal. Ungerer’s hire was posted at footballscoop.com and confirmed by a source. What I don’t know is who will take over as running backs coach – as far as I can tell, Ungerer has not done that in his career as he’s basically a special teams maven. An announcement on the hire should come soon.
