UI notches win in WAC opener

After a bumpy nonconference season, the Idaho Vandals opened WAC play with a solid 59-52 victory at Hawaii late last night. UI coach Don Verlin called it the best defensive performance in his two years with the school, and for good reason. Hawaii shot just 36.7 percent — 12.5 percent from 3 — and was held under 30 points both halves.

The backcourt duo of Mac Hopson and Steffan Johnson combined for 34 points — 24 coming from Hopson for a season high. UI is now 8-4 overall, 1-0 in the WAC. See more here.
