During this meeting, the board continued its discussion on the reformatting of the state basketball tournament.  The following decisions were made:

  1. District tournaments will be allowed to run as late as the Tuesday prior to the start of the first round (round of 16) of the state tournament (Tuesday, February 22).
  2. There will be two (2) #1 seeds and two (2) #2 seeds at each site for the first round of the tournament on Friday, February 25.  The #1s will play each other and the #2s will play each other.  The winner of the #1s will move on to the round of 8 which will be held March 3-5.  The loser of the #1s will play the winner of the #2s on Saturday, February 26.  The winner of that game will also advance to the round of 8.
  3. The first round sites will be finalized during this fall.

The Board also decided that the 2011 3A, 4A State Baseball Championships will be played at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma, WA, as a result of a scheduling conflict at Safeco Field.

A full summary of the WIAA Executive Board meeting will be posted on the WIAA Web site at a later date.
