CdA boys in third; Pounds leads
The Coeur d'Alene boys golf team is in third and the Vikings' Alex Pounds shot the day's low round in the first day of the Idaho State 5A tournament at Avondale Golf Club in Hayden.

Pounds takes a two-stroke lead into the final round today. His team is in third, nine strokes behind leader Eagle (297). Centennial trails by one.
“I’ve been playing pretty well lately, but just hadn’t put it together,” said Pounds, who had four birdies that were offset by just one bogey. “It came together. I limited my mistakes and made a few birdies.”
Pounds wonders, though, what could have been. The left-hander hit 16 of 18 greens in regulation on the tight 6,335-yard layout.
“I had a lot of 15-foot birdie putts,” Pounds said.
CdA’s 306 (four of five players’ scores are counted) included rounds of 75 from senior Andrew Roller and a 79 from freshman Michael Porter. Junior Brennan Stillinger and sophomore Hunter Kraft each shot 83.
Eagle was led by Ty Travis, who shot 72. Jacob Ready and David Elliott led Centennial with 71s. They’re tied for second.
CdA coach Bryan Duncan thought his team would shot seven to eight shots better.
