Thompson leads WSU past Portland, 84-68

COUGARS

The next journey for Washington State will be the tough one. The University of Portland? Big deal. The bus ride back to the hotel? Now that's going to be scary. We'll be joining the Cougs on the Seattle roads as soon as I get this post up, so read on.

• If you want to read our game story, click here. But we have a couple of other notes to add. ... Reggie Moore's injury is more telling than a 3-0 record shows. Klay Thompson played 39 minutes, Marcus Capers another 32 as WSU just doesn't have the depth in the backcourt right now. Unless Moore can hurry back, those two along with Faisal Aden (30 minutes) are going to wear down. ... Dre Winston did play 18 minutes tonight, though he only took two shots, grabbed two rebounds and had one assist. ... The Cougars were outrebounded 36-30, though they did a nice job on Luke Sikma, holding him eight boards under his average. Part of that is WSU shot 58.8 percent from the floor. DeAngelo Casto led everyone with seven rebounds while Thompson added six more. ... Sikma finished with 12 points and Nemanja Mitrovic added 17, 12 of those after halftime. ... Ken Bone said afterward the WSU bigs have to play better if the Cougars want to take another step. We're going to look at that a bit between now and Friday's game in Fresno.

• That's all for now. We'll be back in the morning, but we are on another early flight, so we'll see how much we can get done. Until then ...
