Cowen sent down

The Ottawa Senators sent 2009 first-round draft pick Jared Cowen back to the Spokane Chiefs on Saturday afternoon. The Sens’ release is below but it doesn’t say much. Also, the full box from last night’s 6-3 loss at Kootenay.

The Ottawa Senators announced today they have reduced their training camp roster, re-assigning eight players to the Binghamton Senators of the American Hockey League and one returns to his junior team.
The players re-assigned to Binghamton today include goaltender Robin Lehner; defencemen Derek Smith and Patrick Wiercioch; and forwards Cody Bass, Bobby Butler, Ryan Keller, Francis Lessard and Corey Locke.

Defenceman Jared Cowen returns to his Western Hockey League team, the Spokane Chiefs.

Kevin King had two goals and added an assist as the Kootenay Ice doubled the Spokane Chiefs 6-3 in WHL action Friday.
Spokane took a 3-2 first period lead on goals by Mitch Holmberg, Steve Kuhn and Tyler Johnson, all with their first goals of the season. Kootenay replied with markers by Max Reinhart and James Martin. In the second Kootenay tied the game with King’s first of the night, a short-handed marker, 46 seconds into the middle frame. Brock Montgomery scored the eventual game-winner at 12:11, banging home a pass by Elgin Pearce for his first of the season. In the third the Ice got two more goals by Matt Fraser and another by Kevin King to give the Ice the 6-3 win.
Todd Mathews stopped 24 of 27 shots to get the win while James Reid turned aside 13 of 19 shots to take the loss.
Elgin Pearce chipped in with three assist while Max Reinhart scored a goal and an assist.
