Preps this week

Had a brain fart that was pointed out in my column last week. I said Mt. Spokane opened with wins over 4A teams Ferris and Central Valley. Meant to say Gonzaga Prep and CV. My bad. Sometimes it just comes off as if we don’t know what we’re talking about!

Click the tab below to see what’s going on this week.

FOOTBALL: The big showdown is finally here - Greater Spokane League co-leaders Ferris and Mt. Spokane face off Friday at Joe Albi Stadium. Kickoff in the second game of the doubleheader is at 8.

Another big game Friday has Gonzaga Prep (4-1) at Central Valley (3-2) at 7. This is big because the winner will have the edge for the second playoff seed. The loser falls into a battle for the third spot with Mead (3-2). Mead has big games left against Ferris (10/15) and G-Prep (10-21). CV beat Mead earlier.

In North Idaho, Lake City, which eeked out a thrilling 22-21 win over Post Falls in a 5A Inland Empire League opener last Friday on a two-point conversion with 39 seconds remaining, goes to Lewiston on Friday.

VOLLEYBALL: The annual Crossover Classic is Friday and Saturday at four sites - Ferris, Lewis and Clark, Shadle Park and Rogers. The title match Saturday is at 6:30 p.m. at Ferris. The 64-team tourney could be the best ever.
