Chicago DL Alston signs with Shock

Spokane has signed defensive lineman Mike Alston, who played for Chicago last season. Alston had 2.5 sacks in 13 games for the Rush. More below.

Alston, 6-feet-2 and 250 pounds, played for the Chicago Rush last season, recording 20 tackles and 2.5 sacks in just 13 games. In 2009, Alston played for the af2’s Mahoning Valley Thunder, registering 32.5 tackles with a team-leading 4.5 sacks.

Prior to his professional career, Alston attended the University of Toledo and was named first team All-MAC as a junior and a senior. In his career as a Rocket, Alston finished with 184 total tackles, 36.5 tackles for loss and 20.5 career sacks (including a team-high seven as a senior).

“He has all the physical tools to be great – he has a high motor, he’s is willing to do whatever it takes to the get to the quarterback and he understands the game of Arena Football,” Head Coach Rob Keefe explained. “We are expecting him to contribute in a major way on our defense and we are excited to see him.”

Alston is the 25th player added to the Shock’s 2011 roster.
