Catching up with WSU

COUGARS • UPDATED: 10:05 A.M.

Wow. You take a day and the emails pile up, the number of stories to link becomes nearly unmanageable and basketball season jumps into the picture. It's overwhelming. The moral of the story? Never take a day. Read on for the damage control.

• Washington State: Before we took off, we put together a few stories to tide everyone over. We talked with Bill Moos this week about his plan for a football-only facility and the future of the football program came up, so we wrote about that as well. Plus, we put together our Pac-10 picks. UPDATE: We found the link so it's up. ... John Blanchette wrote about Josh Luchs' allegations in Sports Illustrated. ... Speaking of those, Steve Bergum talked with former Cougar and current EWU assistant Torey Hunter, who denied he ever took Luchs' money. ... The WSU Football Blog recaps Paul Wulff's radio show from Tuesday night. ... Reading and talking to folks, it looks as if the linebacker corps, bolstered last week with the addition of Sekope Kaufusi, is a little thin right now, what with Kaufusi sitting out after suffering a thigh bruise Tuesday, Jamal Atofau suspended and Arthur Burns still struggling with a knee problem that flared up again Wednesday. ... Safety Chima Nwachukwu won't play again this week. ...

• Around the Pac-10: ESPN.com's Ted Miller has his weekly picks. ... He also has stock report. ... San Jose's Jon Milner has his action/reaction around the conference and his picks. ... The BCS is a corrupt enterprise according to a new book ... Washington: The Huskies held their basketball media day, but we're not going to be able to link all those stories because we have to be over to WSU this afternoon and we wouldn't be done. We do have a football story to pass on. ... Oregon State: With James Rodgers gone, Markus Wheaton assumes a bigger role in the offense. This week, though, he's battling a balky knee. ... Oregon: The Ducks treat concussions with care, just like the rest of college football these days. ... Oregon has been in nearly the same position before. ... Cal: A textbook tackle earns a newspaper story. ... Stanford: Nothing today. ... USC: Allan Bradford can't understand why he rushed for 223 yards against WSU and only 33 vs. Stanford. We do. ... UCLA: Kevin Prince's knee is still bothering him (interesting picture with this story). ... Arizona State: Thomas Weber, the nation's best kicker as a freshman, is struggling three years later. .... Arizona: A freshman cornerback will play a lot more snaps this week. ... The running backs should be used more as well. ... Jeff Tuel's play from another perspective.

• And that's all for this morning. We'll be back later today after Paul Wulff's press conference and the Cougars' practice. Until then ...
