News from around the WHL

There is some news around the Western Hockey League today to get fans ready for the Spokane Chiefs' game against Everett, in its first road game of the season, at the Arena Saturday night. Check the extended for the links.

Tonight the Everett Silvertips finish their eight-game, season-opening homestand before hitting the road, with Nick Patterson of The Everett Herald checking in on that. The Silvertips come to Spokane, which is struggling on the power play, which we linked yesterday. Speaking of the Chiefs, Howie Stalwick of The Inlander had a piece this week on Tyler Johnson.

Greg Harder of The Regina Leader Post has a roundup of all the 20-year olds after Thursday's cut-down day. Making a big change was Tri-City, as reported by Annie Fowler of The Herald.

Portland coach Mike Johnston told Steve Brandon of The Portland Tribune the Winterhawks may have been over-rated. You saw them twice last weekend, what do you think? That said, Gregg Drinnan's blog speculates on Nino Niedereider being sent back from the Islanders, which would be huge for Portland.

We'll be back Saturday with the Everett game. You can get updates after goals from SRtrim on Twitter.
