NC runners do their thing

North Central cruises to the Greater Spokane League boys cross country championship in a showdown with University - both were unbeaten - and leads the way in 3A qualifying for regional, which is Oct. 30 in Wenatchee. The story there is that Mt. Spokane and Shadle Park, ranked in the top 5 3A teams, didn't come close to making it. The Wildcats advance five runners, enough to score at state but ... One coach was heard to mutter, "It's so frustrating."

On the girls side, which had no bearing on the GSL regular-season title, Shadle Park and Mt. Spokane qualified.

The top seven individuals not on a state qualifying team also advance. The GSL standings and the 3A regional qualifiers are below. The story is here.

Girls advancing in addition to Shadle Park (Katie Morris, Kendra Weitz, Emily Stone, Chelsea Chandler, Maddy Cook, Megan Skinner, Michaela Lindley) and Mt. Spokane (Brooklin Young, Molly Cole, Sammie Pedersen, Kellie Duchow, Sierra Dodd, Afton McKinlay, Lisa DePledge) are: Katie Knight, NC; Michaela Roske NC; Brittany Cermak UHi; Jasmine McDaniel UHi; Zoey Henson UHi; Kira Johnston UHi and Abigail Fall NC.

Boys advancing in addition to North Central (Vince Hamilton, Casey Adams, Andrew Wordell, Kieth Williams, Austen Frostad, Kai Wilmot, Nik Taylor) and University (Jon Smith, Christian Bucko, Jake Hombel, BJ Smith, Trevin Hiebert, Mathew Fry, Travis Stark) are: Nathan Weitz, SP, Hunter Johnson MtS, Connor Jones MtS, Eli Dietz MtS, Jake Depledge MtS, Christian Fullmer MtS and Stepehen Hafferkamp, SP.
