A congested Thursday at WSU

Thursdays aren't usually all that busy on the Washington State beat. A story or two, a Paul Wulff press conference, football practice, a blog post or two and, if there's a road game on the weekend, a drive to Spokane. But today we throw in the Pac-10 basketball media day, which we'll be following from here in Pullman, and things get a little crowded. So let's get to the morning post. You can read on.

• Washington State: Actually, there's more than usual to link today, starting with our story on the 10/10/10 fund-raising initiative that fell a bit short of its stated goal. As an aside, it always cracks me up when I write a story for The Spokesman-Review, it appears on the Seattle Times website (the S-R trades stories with the Times) and it gets mentioned here as a Times report. By the way, sometimes the Times edits my stuff pretty heavily, oftentimes cutting it by more than half, and this is one of those instances. If you read my story on the S-R site, which is the way I wrote the story, then read this, you see it's been rewritten. ... We also had our practice report up last night. ... We linked the Pac-10 picks yesterday, but we might as well do them again this morning. ... Cougfan takes a look at the Cougars' statistics. ... CougCenter examines Arizona State. ... And the Arizona State Press writes about the Cougars. ... To get away from football for a minute, we'll have some coverage of Ken Bone and Klay Thompson's appearance at the Pac-10 basketball media day, along with the conference media poll (I picked WSU third if you want to know). The duo will fly back in time for a scrimmage tomorrow evening in Bohler Gym. If you want to go, you can. There is more information here. ... You can also watch video of a recent practice here.

• Around the Pac-10:'s Ted Miller has what you should be looking for this weekend and his predictions. ... Jon Wilner in San Jose doesn't see the conference filling its bowl obligations. ... Though this isn't a Pac-10 incident, it's sad and we wanted to share it. Talking with the WSU video folks yesterday evening, the idea of sending someone up in a lift in high winds like that was abhorrent. ... Washington: When your campus is in the heart of an urban area, there are always going to be players who get away. ... The quarterback matchup in Seattle is exciting. ... Oregon State: Some notes from the Beavers' practice. ... Oregon: The Ducks and Trojans will make a lot of money from this game (second note). Not for long though. The revenue-distribution formula is changing with the Pac-12. ... Speed will be a key factor for the USC defense. ... Cal: Not a lot here. ... Stanford: More on the quarterback matchup of Jake Locker and Andrew Luck. ... USC: Can Oregon cope with the Trojans' speed? Receiver Ronald Johnson doesn't think so. ... UCLA: The Bruins have to prepare for two different styles of quarterback play. ... Arizona State: Defensive end Jamaar Jarrett will try to make Jeff Tuel's Saturday miserable. ... Athletic Director Lisa Love gives Dennis Erickson a vote of confidence. ... WSU and ASU are similar in styles, so the Sun Devils' offense and defense have practiced against each other more than the scout team this week. ... Arizona: With UCLA on the road this week, the Wildcats prepare for the pistol.

• That's all for this morning. We'll be back around 10 a.m. with our Pac-10 basketball media day report. We'll be tweeting as well at vinceg55. Until then ...
