Tuesday mornings with WSU

COUGARS

There is nothing like opening up a new computer. The fresh computer smell. The faster processor. The cool keyboard. The inability to access half your favorite websites because you can’t remember the passwords. The loss of all your macros. How fun. We have your morning links and a couple notes, so read on.

• Washington State: While I was visiting the doc yesterday, and we won’t get into that because I’m not a happy camper, and getting my new computer up and running, I missed Bill Moos’ radio show. According to this Cougfan piece, I guess he opened a little box of speculation. Actually, I don’t understand the problem. He’s said all along he wouldn’t make a decision on Paul Wulff’s status until the end of the season and he reiterated that, I guess, yesterday. What would he be looking for over the course of the year? He said he wanted to see signs of progress. And if he didn’t? Well, he never said, but the unspoken aspect of those words always was, if there are no signs of progress, he would at least contemplate a change. Seems like he’s still in that wait-and-see mode while saying, once again, he supports Paul Wulff. Not that anything he says will dampen others’ opinions. That’s the nature of college football. … OK, on to the links. … We had our first look at SMU in today’s paper. … And that, my friends, is all I can access on the Cougars today.

• Around the Pac-10: A big week for the conference, and ESPN.com’s Ted Miller analyzes it all. … He also covers the players of the week. … The Pac-10 punishes some officials that screwed up a call in the USC game with Virginia. If they had gotten it right would UVA have won? I don’t know, but because I picked the Cavaliers, I’m saying yes. … Should the Pac-10 and the Big Ten meet more often? Like every year in a formalized setting? … Washington: The Huskies receivers are blocking better. … UW will face a problem defenses have faced for the past three years while playing the Huskies: dealing with a speedy quarterback. … Oregon State: Because the Beavers had a bye last week, they got back to practice this week on Monday. … Oregon: After two huge wins, the Ducks swear they won’t be looking past Portland State. … Cal: The Bears’ grades from last week. … Stanford: The same for the Cardinal. By the way, what does it take to get an A at Stanford?… USC: The Golden Gophers interviewed Lane Kiffin when they hired Tim Brewster. … UCLA: Kevin Prince is still Rick Neuheisel’s pick to quarterback the Bruins. … Neuheisel seems to be avoiding the criticism that overtook his predecessor Karl Dorrell. … Arizona State: If the Sun Devils are going to defeat Wisconsin on Saturday, their defense will have to play big. Real big. … Arizona: The same can be said about the Wildcats and Iowa.

• That’s all for this morning. We’ll be on the Pac-10 coaches conference call this morning, then hit Paul Wulff’s press conference before we head out to practice. We promise to be back this afternoon, unless we find out our new computer doesn’t work around wheat pollen. Until then …
