Tuesday mornings with WSU

You know the old saying about no rest for the wicked? Well, I must have been awfully bad lately, because it's been impossible to sleep. Or maybe it's all the nightmares about leaving my seat in the press box to use the facilities and missing two Washington State touchdowns. Hasn't really happened yet, but seemed like it was possible the first two weeks of the season. Read on.

• Washington State: Given that it's a Tuesday morning, there is not a lot to pass along. Oh sure, we have our usual Tuesday item, the first look at Saturday's opponent, in this case San Diego State. But there is rarely much more in the way of free stuff. ... Over at CougCenter they have this look at the recruits of 2010 and come up with the way-too-early pronouncement it is the best signing class ever. ... Bob Clark's Pac-12 notes leads with the prolific Washington State offense. ... From San Diego, the big news today is half the county may not see the Aztecs game at Michigan next week. Is it possible SDSU may look past WSU toward the matchup with its old coach, Brady Hoke? ... Finally, former Cougar John Olerud leads this year's class of inductees into the Inland Northwest Hall of Fame.

• Around the Pac-12: The day changes, but the subjects remain the same. Like the USC/Utah finish and what it means to those folks who like to gamble. ... And possible conference expansion. ...'s Ted Miller looks ahead to this weekend's games, has some notes from around the conference and singles out the best play from the conference's quarterbacks. ... Washington: The quick turnaround in this series with Nebraska, with the bowl game sandwiched around the regularly scheduled home-and-home, is still worth examining. ... Oregon State: The Beavers' bye leads to this one story. A game-time story. ... Oregon: The Ducks leading tackler is on crutches and probably won't play Saturday. Will it make a difference against Missouri State? ... California: A win at Colorado earns the Bears a decent grade. ... Stanford: Nothing today. ... Colorado: The Buffs lose an offensive lineman with a broken bone. ... Utah: The rivalry game with BYU is a bit different this season. ... Utes' quarterback Jordan Wynn finally admits his arm isn't fully healed. ... USC: More on the end-of-game snafu. ... UCLA: After the win over San Jose State, coach Rick Neuheisel did not stick around for his usual postgame chat to the Rose Bowl crowd. Maybe he wanted to get in the locker room and speak with quarterback Richard Brehaut. ... Arizona State: The Sun Devil defense did not play up to its expectations Friday night. ... Arizona: The Wildcats have one thing going for them. They have a bit more time to prepare for Stanford. But will Juron Criner be back?

• That's it for now. It's press conference day. We'll be back with our summary of Paul Wulff's pressers, hopefully before we head out to practice. Until then ...
