Gonzaga Prep guard Chris Sarbaugh has decided to continue his basketball career at Gonzaga University.

Sarbaugh earned All-Greater Spokane League honors as a junior last season. He averaged 9 points for the Bullpups, who finished 24-4 and advanced to the state tournament.

“He was getting a lot of interest after the summer AAU circuit: Denver, Lehigh, Seattle,” Gonzaga Prep coach Matty McIntyre said. “Montana was really high on him. It was totally Chris’s decision but I think it’s a smart move. He’s obviously going to a great program with a lot of tradition.”

McIntyre anticipates Sarbaugh assuming more of the scoring burden this season with the departure of GSL MVP Ryan Nicholas, who is playing at Portland.

“Chris is probably one of the best on-ball defenders and overall defenders that I’ve seen,” McIntyre said. “Very athletic, jumps well. Offensively, he’s probably a pass-first guy, likes to get others involved, but I think he’s developing more into a scorer.”
