Cougars off field after first practice

COUGARS

Washington State held its first morning practice of preseason camp and the Cougars went in full pads. They'll wear shells this afternoon as they finish their first two-a-day. Read on for more.

• A couple players returned today, most notably defensive tackle Toni Pole, who was running with the ones after missing a couple days with a hamstring strain. Defensive end Jordan Pu'u Robinson started in full pads, but took off his shoulder pads and worked on the stationary bike after a short time. ... Linebacker Darryl Monroe set out after suffering a slight concussion yesterday. He'll be out until he passes the tests. Chester Su'a took Monroe's place with the twos. ... Defensive end Ian Knight was also out with a bad left quad, though he did a lot of work on the bike, right leg only of course. ... If there was a play of the practice session, it was Alex Hoffman-Ellis' perfect form tackle on Rickey Galvin in a team session. ... And if there was a player of the morning, it would have to be backup safety Casey Locker, who came up with a diving interception of a Connor Halliday pass and then made a spectacular breakup of a Jeff Tuel pass intended for Isiah Barton. ...

• That's it for now. Until later ...
