WSU set for first two-a-day

COUGARS

There is not much time before Washington State hits the practice field for the first of two workouts today. So we'll get right to the links. Read on.

• Washington State: We had some notes from yesterday's practice on last night's post, so we're not going to rehash that much. We also had our story from the scrimmage portion. … We wanted to also pass along Howie Stalwick's update on Cougfan concerning Bobo Brayton's condition. Don't want to make too much of this, because as far as I can tell Brayton is OK. Really, though, any type of injury suffered by most 85-year-olds is serious, just because of their age.

• Around the Pac-12: The new NCAA APR guidelines would affect every conference, not just the Pac-12. Think about this, though. If the rules were in effect right now, Washington State would be preparing for a football season that, no matter how well the Cougars played, couldn't end in a bowl game. … ESPN.com's Ted Miller looks at crucial games for coaches on the hot seat. And yes, WSU has one. … Washington: Jonathan Amosa made the switch to fullback just before the season. Now he may be starting. … Just who will be starting at the two outside linebacker spots is still to be determined. … Oregon State: Notes from Thursday's practice. … Athletic Director Bob De Carolis is dealing with Parkinson's in his usual manner. … Oregon: Notes from Thursday's practice. … One player has settled on one position. … Colorado: The Buffs are trying to decide who will punt. … A look at the Buffs from another time zone. … Utah: The Utes hold their first scrimmage. … One receiver believes he's going to have a big year. … California: The Bears lose their starting fullback to an ACL injury. … Stanford: Though the Cardinal have to replace three starters on their offensive line, but they have two pretty darn good guys returning. … USC: The Trojans lose a backup quarterback for a while to a thumb injury. … UCLA: The Bruins are looking for more consistency from their receivers. … Arizona State: The Sun Devils have a kick returner who is setting a lofty goal. … Arizona: This offensive lineman has an unusual heritage.

• That's it for this morning. We'll be back after the first practice – an 8:30 start – if anything important happens, but for sure after the second one, which starts at 3:30 this afternoon. Until later …
