An evening post from Pullman

COUGARS

The mood around Pullman has settled down after the events of the past few days, but that doesn't mean the waters are placid. We have some links and some notes, so read on.

••••••••••

• Before we get to the links, we wanted to pass along some thoughts based on interactions today with a few Pullman citizens. I had to do some personal errands which meant I was talking to people from around town. The subject of Paul Wulff's dismissal and the subsequent hiring of Mike Leach was the main focus of each conversation. The sample size was small, I'll grant you, but it was overwhelming negative, not so much for the outcome but for how Wulff's dismissal was handled. This handful of Cougars were upset that one of their own was seemingly left twisting in the wind (one of their words) while Bill Moos waited for an answer (another person's comment). It didn't sit well with the people I interacted with today. ... Now to the links. I put together a story on the uptick in interest concerning season tickets and donations – those folks don't seem to be upset – and our Steve Bergum talked with former Cougar coach Mike Price – Steve covered WSU when Mike was the coach – and others to get their thoughts on the hire. ... The Seattle Times has a reactions story from Bud Withers and freelancer Howie Stalwick put together a Mike Price piece for Cougfan and others. ... You might have already seen this Leach piece by Michael Lewis in the New York Times Magazine, but I'll pass it along. It's going to take a chunk of time to get through. You've been warned.

• That's it for tonight. We'll be back in the morning as usual. Until then ...
