Summing up WSU’s week

COUGARS

It's been a long time since I've written a morning post from Spokane. But that's where we find ourselves on this nicer-than-average Sunday in early December. We only have one question for you. Is your Christmas shopping done? Read on.

• Washington State: Heck, I know the answer to that question. Anyone who has their Christmas shopping done is either way too organized for my tastes – or spent all their money on WSU football season tickets for next year. OK, so a lot of you have it done. … It was really nice to sit and cover a Cougar basketball game yesterday afternoon, mainly because it seemed so, well, normal, after the week that was. Just cover a game, write it, and be done. Though the phone kept chiming in with football-related texts, but that's a story for another day. For this one, we have our game story from last night, John Blanchette's column out of the WSU 75-49 rout and freelancer Howie Stalwick's gamer that ran in the News Tribune. … From the football side of things, the Times' Bud Withers talked with folks from Mike Leach's past for this profile of the new Cougar coach, while Stalwick had this piece in the News Tribune and other places. … The Whidbey paper has this Marshall Lobbestael profile. … And that's about it concerning WSU.

• Around the Pac-10: ESPN.com's Ted Miller tells us what we learned over the past week and hands out helmet stickers. WSU is represented in both. … Now that Oregon has won the Pac-12 football title and Rose Bowl berth opposite Wisconsin, folks a state south think its time to win one of these BCS bowl games. … Stanford should be headed to the Fiesta Bowl when all the bowls are announced tonight. … And it looks as if Washington is on its way to San Antonio. … UCLA and Arizona State will be playing in bowls, that much we know. But who will coach them next year? It looks as if ASU is now after SMU's June Jones while the Bruins are casting around. … Rich Rod is Arizona's coach, but the rest of the staff is still unknown. … In basketball news, the Pac-12 continues to struggle with UCLA blowing a lead to Texas, Oregon falling at BYU and USC getting beat by Minnesota. Arizona did win, though, over Northern Arizona while ASU got past Tulsa. Nice day. … Oregon State is 5-1 and feeling good about itself.

• That's all for this morning. A quick note. The next couple days I'll be away from the computer, away from Twitter, away from work. It's my post-football, get-reacquainted-with-Kim weekend. So you'll have to get by without a morning post tomorrow. Enjoy your free time. Until later …
