Early morning at WSU

COUGARS

We're more than a little later-than-usual today, I know, but if you could see what I see right now, you would understand why. Read on.

••••••••••

• Washington State: This morning has been a mess in Pullman. The snow started falling in the wee small hours of the morning and is still blowing around as we type. And with coach Ken Bone headed over to Seattle this afternoon to watch high school basketball games tonight, the Cougars hit the practice floor before 7 a.m. Not much to report other than Faisal Aden practiced Monday and today, so whoever used their magic hands on his balky left knee over the weekend can work on my sore left calf anytime. Maybe I'll be running up and down the court in 48 hours. ... With Bone and two assistants out recruiting today and tomorrow, the Cougars will take Wednesday off before getting down to it in preparation for Sunday's game at UW on Thursday. ... We don't have much for today in the way of links, but we do have some. The game times for the last two Pac-10 games were announced Monday, with the USC game on Thursday set for 7 p.m. (no TV) and Saturday's UCLA game to start at 2:30 p.m. (FSN). ... Four of the football coaches on this list of those needing a good spring are from the Pac-12, including Paul Wulff.

•••

• Around the Pac-10: The Huskies aren't sitting for a week between games. They face Seattle U. in Key Arena in a final non-conference game tonight. And Lorenzo Romar expects a few tricks from his former assistant, Cameron Dollar. ... The Pac-10 is young this season. But there are a few of the young stars that might not be around to welcome in the Pac-12. ... UCLA played a little zone for the first time this year against California on Sunday night. That surprised the Bruins a bit. But they shouldn't expect too much more. ... Arizona's Derrick Williams was the Pac-10 player of the week. Doug Haller thinks he's also the player of the year. And he's right. The last second or two Saturday in Tucson clinched it. And kept the Wildcats high in the national rankings. ... Stanford began spring football Monday under new coach David Shaw. ... We'll end on a baseball note. There still seems to be some hope in Berkeley, misguided or not.

•••

• That's all for this morning. We'll probably not be back today as Bone is skipping the Pac-10 media call due to his flight commitments. Until later ...
