Eags shoot for win over PSU

Eastern Washington's men's basketball team returns to Reese Court tonight to take on Portland State in a B ig Sky Conference showdown that tips off at 7:05.

The Eagles are coming off a disappointing 57-55 loss at Sac State in which their three starting guards and top three scorers went 0-for-17 from the field and finished with a combined eight points. You can read more on what Coach Kirk Earlywine said his team's dismal outside shooting against the Hornets here, and you can take a look at EWU's weekly press release here

There are additional links to related stories below, along with some more comments from Earlywine on the importance to this week's Big Sky homes games against PSU (tonight) and Idaho State (Saturday).

For starters, I've included this link to what Portland State's sports information office posted about the Vikings' upcoming games and this link to the weekly game notes supplied by Idaho State's sports info folks.  The Big Sky's weekend roundup can be found here.

In Portland State, the Eagles will face a wounded team that has been banned from postseason play because of a series of academic issues.  But Eastern coach Kirk Earlywine has yet to see any give-up in the Vikings' on-court performance.

"They were coming off a really good (71-69) home win against Weber State before they lost (71-59) against Northern Arizona," Earlywine said of the Vikes. "And even though NAU shot the ball really well against them, I didn't see any decline in effort, or anything like that.

"They were also playying without two starters (junior center Nate Lozeau and junior wing Chehales Tapscott -- neither of which is expected to play in tonight games),  and when you're down to 11 scholarship guys because of the (academic) sanctions, that's hard to overcome."
