Busy closing week for women’s basketball

Welcome from the State B basketball tournament at the oud Arena, where I'm set up for coverage of the 2B boys. But there is still some women's basketball news, starting with Hofstra freshman Katie Loper (Post Falls) scoring a career high in a win. Read on.

Montana State, with Lyndi Seidensticker (Lewis and Clark) is at Eastern Washington tonight with Montana and Katie Baker (Lake City) coming in Saturday afternoon to close out the regular season in the Big Sky Conference. Those games, along with the flip-flop games at Portland State, with Kelli Valentine (Mead) and Lexi Bishop (Shadle Park) going a long way in determining the champion and tournament pairings. Saturday is also Senior Day for a group of Eagles that broke new ground in their career, 3-point record holder Kayla Evans, reigning league MVP Julie Piper and super-sub Tatjana Sparavalo.

Washington State closes the regular season in Los Angeles against USC tonight and No. 9 UCLA on Saturday trying to improve seeding for the Pac-10 tournament.

Idaho heads south for a key game at New Mexico State and then goes east to close the regular season at WCA leader Louisiana Tech.

Gonzaga is waiting to see who the opponent will be in the WCC semifinals with the tournament beginning on Friday. The Zag game is at 11 a.m. on Saturday. There is a video up that includes a nice feature on Courtney Vandersloot.

I'm sure there is plenty of other news, like lower division league playoff games, but some all-league stuff, but back to the business at hand.
