Elimination Friday continues

After two lopsided girls' games and two hotly contested boys games in the opening session, Brewster and Adna will try and prove they deserve to stick around in the State 2B girls' bracket, while Lummi and Mt. Rainier Lutheran will do the same in boys' 1B play.

Brewster, a perennial state power up until 2008, lost in its first game back to the Hardwood Classic, 41-32 to Toutle Lake.

Lummi and Mt. Rainier Lutheran will try and get on the right track after tough first-round losses by a combined 80 points.

BREWSTER VS. ADNA

Brewster 12, Adna 10 through one quarter

Becky Mae Taylor has six points in the first quarter and the Bears and Pirates look evenly matched, not giving any ground in the first quarter. The Bears have led by as many as three in the opening eight minutes. Taylor Hoke has kept the Pirates in the game, scoring six points.

Brewster 26, Adna 22 halftime

The Bears take their biggest lead into the half thanks to 12 points from Smith. Adna has kept pace though, not letting the Bears get any kind of momentum going. Hoke has nine to lead the way for the Pirates.

A 10-2 run to start the second half by Brewster prompts a timeout from the Pirates. Chandler Smith now has 10 points for the Bears to go with 15 from Taylor.

The Pirates snap the run with a three-point play by Taylor Woods. The lead for the Bears is now nine after two free throws by Hoke.

Brewster 42, Adna 35 through three quarters

Hoke closes the frame with eight points to give her 17 for the contest and the Pirates cut the lead to seven after trailing by as many as 12. Smith and Taylor have a combined 27 points for Brewster.

Carlee Jarrell joins the double-digit scoring party for the Bears, scoring her 10th and 11th points during a 7-0 run that pushes the Bears' lead out to 14 with 5:31 left in the game. The run appears to have taken the wind out of the sails of the Pirates, who trail by 14 with 1:30 left.

Brewster 59, Adna 42 final

LUMMI VS. MT RAINIER LUTHERAN

Lummi wastes no time getting on the board as Logan Toby hits a shot in the first four seconds to give the Blackhawks an early lead. The Hawks have hit two 3-poitners for their only points of the game thus far.

Lummi 16, MRL 9 through one quarter

Since being tied 6-6, the Blackhawks have been on a 12-3 run. That was finally broken by four quick points from the Hawks.

Lummi 24, MRL 18 halftime

The Hawks close the half on a 5-1 run to cut the lead to six at the break. Carl Neumiller has 14 points, including hitting 4 of 6 from the 3-point line, to lead all scorers for MRL. Lummit's Tony Rivera has 10 points and six rebounds.

Neumiller picks up right where he left off, burying a 3-pointer to cut the Lummi lead to eight at 29-21. Rivera is keeping the Blackhawks out front with four third-quarter points.

Lummi 33, MRL 28 through three quarters

The Hawks came a missed layup away from cutting the lead to one, but a putback bucket from Deion Hoskins completed a four-point swing that gave the Blackhawks a five-point lead with eight minutes to play.

Eight straight points by the Blackhawks pushed their lead back to double digits, forcing a MRL timeout with 6:32 left.

Hoskins hits a dagger 3-pointer with 3:34 left to push the Lummi lead to 16.

Lummi 48, MRL 37 final

The final four teams to try and stave off elimination will be the Rosalia Spartans and Columbia Adventist Kodiaks in the 1B boys' and White Swan and Napavine in the 2B girls.

WHITE SWAN VS. NAPAVINE

White Swan 15, Napavine 12 through one quarter

Another tightly contested game in the early going, the Cougars' have led by as many as three, while Napavine has led by two.

Napavine 26, White Swan 25 halftime

Ali Brossard has a game-high 15 points and the Tigers used a 9-2 run to take their first lead of the game. The Cougars countered to draw within one by the break.

The Cougars score six straight out of a timeout to take a one-point lead, their first lead since early in the second quarter. The lead for WS goes to five before Demi Sahlinger's 3-pointer cuts it to two with 1:20 left in the third quarter.

White Swan 38, Napavine 38 through three quarters

ROSALIA VS. COLUMBIA ADVENTIST

Rosalia 16, Columbia Adventist 8 through one quarter

Nathan Richards has six points and Casey Brown has five to lead the Spartans in the early going. They have played somewhat sloppy in the opening quarter, allowing the Kodiaks to hang around.

The wheels apparently have come off the wagon for the Kodiaks, as Rosalia has opened the second quarter with a 15-3 run. Defense has made the biggest difference for Rosalia, helpin them get easy buckets early and often.

Rosalia 37, Columbia Adventist 12 halftime

Flash Hodes has been wearing out the Kodiak guards thus far and Richards has been a force in the paint blocking shots and hauling in rebounds. The Kodiaks managed just four points in the frame, but put up very few shots in the process. Richards, meanwhile, ouscored the Kodiaks 17-12, adding nine rebounds and six blocks.

Rosalia 55, Columbia Adventist 18 through three quarters

Richards hit his first shot of the second half and kept right on going, pushing the 20-point barrier with a two-pointer at the free throw line that helped the Spartans build their lead to a game-high 37 points.
