Warriors vs. Wildcats Part II

Just two hours after the Almira/Coulee-Hartline and Colton boys took part in a 57-55 barnburner for third place, the Warrior and Wildcat girls will square of for the State 1B girls' title. ACH has cruised through its first two games to reach the championship, outscoring its opposition 110-58. Colton, meanwhile, survived a 40-35 scare against Sunnyside Christian to reach the finals.

A slow start for both teams has the Warriors leading 2-1 with 3:03 remaining in the first quarter. Nikki Osborne has the game's lone field goal thus far for ACH.

 

Colton 9, ACH 4 through one quarter

Mollie Kramer has six of the Wildcats' first nine points, also assisting on a basket by McKenzie Heaslet to help Colton close the first quarter on a 9-2 run. Osborne has all four points thus far for the Warriors.

 

Colton already has six fouls against with seven minutes to go in the half. Jenna Moser picks up the team's seventh, sending Madeline Isaak to the free throw line.

 

Isaak goes back to the line and hits the front end of the one and one to draw the Warriors even at 12-12. With 3:26 left in the half, they are currently on a 6-0 run to start the second quarter.

 

Colton 22, ACH 14 halftime

Haley Moser's third 3-pointer gives the Wildcats a nine-point advantage in the final minute of the half. Osborne hits one of two at the line to end the half. Her six points is the team high for ACH.

Isaak gets the Warriors on the board first in the second half, converting a three-point play to bring the Wrriors to within five. Moser picks up a quick third personal foul with 6:37 remaining inthe third quarter.

 

Trying to make a move to the basket, Miranda Porterfield hits the deck hard, but after a few seconds gets to her feet on her own power.

 

Jenna Moser's two free throws pushes the Wildcats' lead back to six with 1:25 remiaing in the third quarter. Neither team has been able to sustain momentum in the third quarter with both teams trading buckets.

 

With 1:12 left, Colton has already reached 10 fouls against, putting ACH in the double bonus for the rest of the game.

 

Colton 31, ACH 27 through three quarters

Both teams may be waiting to make their run in the fourth quarter, but through three quarters, they are both well below their season averages in points. Up against prime competition for one of the first times this season, this game looks more like a grind-it-out battle than the up and down style both squads are accustomed to.

 

Mollie Kramer stops a mini run by the Warriors to put the Wildcats up by four and Haley Moser's free throw gives them a five-point advantage with 4:46 left.

 

The Wildcats suffer a big blow as Haley Moser fouls out with 3:55 remaining. Moser finisehd with 11 points and was the Wildcats' leading scorer up to this point in the game.

 

Kramer buries a 3-pointer at the end of the shot clock to give Colton a 44-34 lead with just over two minutes remaining. Dagger.

 

Last gasp for ACH comes up short. Isaak tries to force a shot but misses then fouls Kramer to foul out with seven points.
