WSU leads 32-19 at half

COUGARS

After DeAngelo Casto took Marcus Capers' feed and dunked with 40.7 left in the half to give WSU a 32-17 lead over UCLA, Klay Thompson just couldn't sit down on the end of the bench, his feet constantly moving up and down. Thompson, who apologized to the crowd before the game for his marijuana bust Thursday night and is suspended, was just too full of energy. And Reggie Moore? Sprained ankle or not, he's up a lot cheering as well. ... They had a lot to cheer about. The Cougars running their high post set, with lots of back cuts and screens, were executing well, getting seven layups in the half, five in the half court. ... And, on the other end, they probably shocked UCLA a bit by starting in a man, but switched to zone early, though they extended it the entire time, making the Bruins use clock. ... Without Thompson, WSU needs balanced scoring and it's getting it. Brock Motum has 9, Faisal Aden 7 (though 2 of 9 from the field), Casto has 6 and Abe Lodwick 5. Only three Bruins have scored – they are shooting 28 percent – with Reeves Nelson leading with 9. Josh Smith has 6 and Lazeric Jones 4. ... UCLA is 0-8 from beyond the arc. ... WSU is shooting 48 percent and winning the rebound battle 18-14. ... We'll be back a couple hours after the game, but this is it until then, except on Twitter.
