Taylor on IR; Arizona No. 1

A couple of Shock notes. The team has added LB/WR Chris Hemphill, who was with the Shock in 2009 training camp before joining the Tri-Cities Fever. Defensive lineman Terrance Taylor has been placed on injured reserve with an ankle injury. Injured reserve is a minimum of four weeks, but Taylor should only miss three games because of next week's bye.

The latest AFL coaches poll has a new No. 1: Arizona. The Rattlers are 3-0. San Jose (2-1) is fifth and Utah (1-1) is ninth. Only five unbeatens remain, three of those are 2-0. Here's a recap of the West Division from Week 3.

From Shock PR:

The Spokane Shock announced today that WR/LB Chris Hemphill has been added to the 2011 roster. In an additional roster move, DL Terrance Taylor has been placed on the Injured Reserve List.

Hemphill, 6-5 240, is in his second season of Arena Football. As a rookie, Hemphill played for the Orlando Predators but his season was cut short due to injury. Earlier this season, Hemphill signed with the Utah Blaze.

In 2009, Hemphill was a member of the Shock but finished the season with the Tri-Cities Fever. As a member of the Fever, Hemphill played in seven games and recorded 28.5 tackles with five interceptions, one pass break up and three fumble recoveries. Offensively, Hemphill registered eight receptions, including two touchdowns.

“Chris knows how to use his long frame on both sides of the ball,” Keefe explained. “He is extremely athletic and most importantly he has experience. You can’t teach size and experience and Chris has both.”

Prior to his professional career, Hemphill enrolled at the University of Washington where he played in 24 games. As a Husky, Hemphill tallied 44 tackles, two pass break-ups and one interception. In his final year of college football, Hemphill transferred to Central Washington University. As a Wildcat, he appeared in 13 games and registered 75 tackles with five interceptions, two pass break-ups, one forced fumbled and one blocked kick.

Although the starting lineup for this weekend’s game has not been determined yet, Hemphill will be eligible to play in this Friday’s game against the Kansas City Command.
