A tale of woe from AT&T Park

COUGARS

You've probably already gone to bed but if you haven't you may want to spend some time reading more on the football game and a couple basketball links. Read on.

••••••••••

• We don't have a lot to share other than to say today's football experience was probably the worst I've experienced in my 55 years. From the shuttle that was almost an hour late to sitting in a spot where you could really not watch the game – if you saw it on TV, you had a much better view than I did, though I did watch most of the plays on the flat screen hanging in front of us – to being told we had to be out of the AT&T Park press box three hours after the game ended – the reason for this late post, from the hotel bar. Add it up, (oh, don't forget to throw in the game, quite probably the worst effort the Cougars have put forth since the Arizona State game last season) and it was the kind of day that makes me yearn for early retirement. Tomorrow. But not going to happen. ... We searched for answers for the poor performance tonight, asking each player we interviewed, along with Paul Wulff. In the end, they couldn't explain it. That was the main subject of our game story. ... We had one thought, the long stretch with just one game in Pullman that the Cougars just finished. But the players weren't having it, and neither was Wulff, though he did say "It's been one heck of a stretch, I'll tell you that. I've never experienced anything like this. That's not an excuse for us right now. (Though) it's going to be really nice to get back home." So we never did come up with an answer. ... We also had a notebook, which we led with a touching tribute by a Cal player for the Cougars' Cory Mackay, paralyzed in 2009 in a one-vehicle, roll-over accident. You can read that on the link. ... We can add a couple more links before we head to bed. They are Bud Wither's column, two-minute drill and his notebook in the Times. ... The Cougar basketball team got on Friel Court for a game tonight and rolled over Lewis-Clark State, 88-41, in an exhibition.

• Here are highlights of the basketball game ...

• That's all for tonight. We'll be back in the morning. Until then ...
