We’re at AT&T … finally

After a 45-minute wait for a shuttle that took all of five minutes – and I probably could have walked in 10 – we're at AT&T Park for today's game. A few thoughts on the links, so read on.

• Here's the deal. We are in the corner of the end zone right behind home plate. There are parts of the field we won't be able to see. In essence, if you get to watch this game on TV, you'll have about a 1,492-percent better view of the game than us. If you are on Twitter, I might be asking you for help today. … Otherwise I want to call your attention to a couple numbers: 5, 1, 3. Those are, in order, Cal's Pac-12 ranking in rushing defense (137.9 yards per game), pass defense (199.2) and total defense (337.1). Though the Bears are giving up 26.4 points a game, fifth in the conference, they don't give up a lot of yards. Their offense, with 14 turnovers, third-most in the conference, hasn't helped much. But when quarterback Zach Maynard and the rest of the Bears hold on to the ball, the defense is pretty good. It has given up just seven drives this season longer than 75 yards, and two of those were less than three plays, ending with two long scoring plays. So don't expect the Cougars to march down the field often today. The Bears just don't give them up often. … One more thing. The weather is cool and damp. I expect rain soon. We'll see.

• That's it for now. We'll be back when we can. Until then …
