WSU begins UCLA week

COUGARS • UPDATED: Noon

Good morning from the Inland Northwest. After a day off yesterday, the Washington State Cougars will get back to the weekly grind this evening with practice. After the weekend grind, you folks get back to slouching around at work today. We'll accompany you with this post. Read on.

• UPDATE: WSU senior linebacker Alex Hoffman-Ellis earned the Pac-12 defensive player of the week award for his 14-tackle, two-sack effort against Colorado. He's the first Cougar to earn Pac-12 honores this season. Also, the Homecoming game against Stanford will have a 4:30 p.m. start on Oct. 15 and will be televised by Versus.

••••••••••

• Washington State: We summarized Paul Wulff's press conference and passed on the Jeff Tuel news – Tuel will practice! Film at 11! – last night, so we won't add anymore to that this morning, but we will also pass on our look back at the win as it appeared in the paper and our Tuel story. … We already passed along Brian Floyd's review of the game-winning play, but he upgraded it with new pictures, so we're passing it along again. … Bud Withers adds some historical context to Saturday. He's just the guy to do it. … ESPN.com's Ted Miller has some thoughts on a possible Tuel return. … And that's it for the Cougars, except this. If you didn't get a chance to read our morning post yesterday, here it is.

• Around the Pac-12: In Miller's power rankings, Washington State is almost in the top half (OK, eighth, but my math that must be somewhere in the top half, right?). … Not a real good start to the Pac-12 for the two newest members. … When will anyone give Stanford the credit it deserves? … Washington: The defense is improving and so are the Huskies poll numbers. … Oregon State: The Beavers have turned into a pass-first, run-hardly-ever team. Is that a good thing? … Oregon: The Ducks' LaMichael James has added outstanding punt returner to his resume. … California: A pair of freshmen linebackers have emerged for the Bears. … Stanford: Nothing is ever good enough on The Farm anymore, though Andrew Luck is. Heck, he's almost Peyton Manning good. … Colorado: Luck will get to face the depleted Buff secondary this week … Utah: After their first home Pac-12 defeat, the Utes welcome in Arizona State. … USC: The offense is rolling, the defense is just getting rolled. … UCLA: The Bruins feel they matched up well with Stanford. They just didn't play as well. … Arizona State: Looking back at the Sun Devils win over OSU is easy. … Arizona: The Wildcats' season is this close to turning into a nightmare. Just lose this week and see what happens.

• That's it for this morning. We'll be at practice tonight and pass along some notes later. Until then …
