The start of a long Tuesday at WSU

COUGARS

An interesting day yesterday, right? Not only was it the first day back to football practice at Washington State for the Stanford week, the Pac-12 was thrown into a tizzy with Arizona firing football coach Mike Stoops. More on both those things on the link. Read on.

••••••••••

• Washington State: There are not a lot of items concerning the Cougars to pass along on most Tuesdays, and today is even thinner than normal. We do have our first look at the Stanford game, so there's that. And you folks have tried to educate me about homecoming, which is nice. … How does the Stoops firing affect Paul Wulff, or does it? … ESPN.com's Ted Miller has a midseason report card for each Pac-12 school, including Washington State. … A quick look at this week's game. … How's Klay Thompson handling the lockout? This story tells you. … And, that, my friends, is it for this morning.

• Around the Pac-12: The first few weeks of the conference season has been tough on Utah and Colorado. Looking back at the weekend. … Washington: This week's opponent isn't the most challenging. Sort of like Washington a couple years ago. … Oregon State: A couple Beavers are honored by the conference. … Oregon: The Ducks secondary has been spread out, but comes together when need be. … California: The new quarterback has made plays with his feet. Now a cornerback has to. … Stanford: Try as I might to find interesting Cardinal news today, it was a failed enterprise. … Colorado: One suspended player is welcomed back. … Utah: Quarterback Jordan Wynne is out for the season. This is a big blow to the Utes' offense. … USC: Lane Kiffin and Jeff Tedford are connected in an odd way. … UCLA: No, nothing. … Arizona State: Brock Osweiler faces his toughest test this week. … Arizona: So the Wildcats bid goodbye to coach Mike Stoops and his sideline histrionics. The only question that comes to mind is, why in the middle of the season? Why not wait until the end of the year to replace him?

• That's it for this morning. We'll be back, as the Pac-12 conference call is this morning and then Paul Wulff holds his local conference call and then the Cougars practice and then we try to dry off. Busy day. Until later …
