Preps this week

UPDATED

Thought I'd re-post this since there's a good conversation going.

Can you smell it? State football playoffs are three weeks away in Washington and Idaho (except the Great Northern League). That means two more weeks to settle state playoff berths.

Oh, what a final two weeks in the Greater Spokane League.

Click the tab below for more.

So here's where things are in the GSL

4A

Mead       6-1

Ferris      6-1

Lewis and Clark  6-1

Central Valley  5-2

Gonzaga Prep  5-2.

3A

University  4-3

North Central 2-5

Mt. Spokane  1-6

This week's schedule: Ferris vs. Lewis and Clark, Friday, Albi; Mead at Gonzaga Prep, Friday; Central Valley vs. North Central, Thursday, Albi; University vs. Shadle Park, Thursday, Albi; Rogers vs. Mt. Spokane, Friday, Albi.

Let's say Ferris, Mead and Central Valley win. That would leave Ferris and Mead tied for first going into the final week and Central Valley and LC tied for third. That would be the easiest scenario for deciding the three playoff berths because Mead and Ferris would have games the last week to decide first and second and the LC/CV winner would take third. So Ferris and Mead victories this week lock up playoff berths.

If LC beats Ferris, that would give Mead and LC the top two spots and put Ferris into a tie with CV - though Ferris has the head-to-head tiebreaker over CV. Any two-way ties are decided by head-to-head play.

Gonzaga Prep has no room for error. The Bullpups must win out (vs. Mead, vs. Ferris) to have a shot at a playoff berth. Mead's final game is against University. So a number of things could happen.

My guess is Mead and Ferris get in with the first two seeds and the LC/CV game next week decides the third berth.
