WS’s Halloween practice not spooky at all

Halloween practice at WSU was quite interesting. A Power Ranger walked by. A couple of schoolgirls. Even a group of folks dressed as soccer players. Wait, maybe they were headed to an intramural game. My bad. Read on for what happened at practice.

• Not a lot, sorry. It was your typical Monday night, install the game plan practice. ... Mike Ledgerwood (stinger) returned to practice, albeit in a yellow jersey. Kristoff Williams (stinger) did not. Neither did Jeff Tuel (shoulder, calf). Toni Pole (neck) was at practice but didn't do much. Dan Spitz (sick) was not. Everyone else was out on the cool night. ... I talked with defensive coordinator Chris Ball about the news from Berkeley yesterday that starting quarterback Zach Maynard may be benched in favor of a redshirt sophomore, Allan Bridgford, who hasn't played much at all. How does that affect preparation? It does, Ball said, because Cal has been running a different offense this season, using zone reads and the like to take advantage of Maynard's mobility. But the Bears have run enough of their old power running game that it seems it would be seamless to switch back to that under Bridgford. So the Cougars will have to ready for that as well. ... Here's our first look at the California game.
