Too much today from WSU, Pac-12

COUGARS

The college football season kicks off tonight. With that in mind, there is not time for chit-chat. Way too many stories to pass along, from around here first-and-foremost, than up-and-down the West Coast. So many, we had to use up our monthly quota of hypens. And it's only the first. Read on.

• Washington State: The Spokesman-Review published its football preview section this morning, a section that covers all levels of football, from small high schools to big-time colleges. The theme this season was speed. We had this odd little piece on what speed means to the college game and this feature on the guy who is probably faster at his position than any other Cougar. In the spirit of the stories, I suggest you read them fast. … We also had a story on three WSU redshirt freshmen who can't wait to get on the field. … John Blanchette has a column on the Cougars' bowl chances. … CougCenter has a look at Idaho State as does Cougfan, so you have your choice there. … And we had this post on the blog last night that, once again, led to an outpouring of support. Thanks so much.

• Around the Pac-12: We got started a little late today (we slept really well last night for the first time in weeks and, yes, we know why), so Ted Miller already had a few posts up this morning on ESPN.com, including his picks and what to watch. … The New Tribune had a college football preview and a look up-and-down the Pac-12. … Jon Wilner picks some of the conference games. … Washington: How close are the Huskies to being a great team? … Cort Dennison look like a prototypical middle linebacker. … Oregon State: John Canzano calls out Mike Riley on his discipline. Couldn't agree more. … Defensive tackle Kevin Frahm is out running after surgery. … This linebacker wants to be on the field quickly. … Oregon: LaMichael James is about to be the Ducks all-time leading rusher. … Not too many schools have won the conference three consecutive years. … Oregon's Darron Thomas could have been on the other sideline Saturday night. … California: The Bears need some help from a few freshmen. … Stanford: Andrew Luck, a nerd? … The Cardinal see more than just the Pac-12 title ahead. … Colorado: The Buffaloes will also rely on a few freshmen. … A quarterback leaves Texas for Boulder. … Utah: Two conference teams begin play tonight, but it's a much bigger deal for the Utes. It's their first-ever game as a Pac-12 member. … USC: The Trojans' defense better beware of Minnesota. … UCLA: Houston doesn't just have a passing game, it has a passing attack. And these two guys are happy? … Arizona State: Five things to watch in the Sun Devils opener tonight vs. UC Davis…. Arizona: It is Keola Antolin's time to run the ball.

• That's all for this morning. Coach Paul Wulff has a presser this afternoon, then there's practice to cover. We'll be back to cover both. Until then …
