Another game day at WSU

COUGARS

It's game day on the Palouse, with the sun shining (it's going to probably hit the low 90s during the game), the fans sleeping off the revelry (loud last night) and coffee warming up (not one to waste money, I'm warming up yesterday's leftovers). As usual, we have links to get you ready for the games. Read on.

••••••••••

• Washington State: We have an advance in this morning's S-R, along with the two-minute drill, my thoughts on the keys to the game. ... Freelancer Howie Stalwick has this advance in the News Tribune. ... The Times ran my story but also adds this look at the game. ... From Las Vegas, there is this advance in the Review-Journal (the two receivers/kick returners we mentioned yesterday were left home) and this short piece in the Sun. ... Five things Jeff Nusser wants to see from the Cougars today. ... Finally, I'm hearing there are 75 WSU folks spread out between Spokane and Pullman waving the Cougar flag every mile. Is this true? Let me know.

• Around the Pac-12: ESPN.com's Ted Miller spent last night at Arizona State's overtime win over Missouri (as did we, except our attendance was on our coach and the game was on the HD TV), but he still had time yesterday to post his weekly mailbag. ... He also has his injury report, but the one note he has about Brandon Rankin under the Cougars is not true. I checked with WSU and there is no problem with the senior's eligibility. That's been decided. ... The LA Times' Chris Dusfresne has his thoughts about today's game. ...  Washington: After the close win over Eastern Washington last week, the Huskies hope to play much better today against Hawaii. They'll need to. ... Leaving the Islands is tough for football players as well as tourists. ... Oregon State: The Beavers will have their hands (paws?) full trying not to go 0-2. ... Oregon: The Ducks get a player back from suspension as they try to jam Nevada's pistol. ... California: The oddest thing about the Bears' game today at Colorado is that it's a non-conference game. ... Stanford: Going all the way across the country is not a great thing for the Cardinal student-athletes. ... Colorado: Football can teach some tough lessons. ... Utah: This is the big day for the Utes. The Pac-12 opener. At USC. How fun. ... USC: Expect the Trojans to have a different look against the Utes. ... UCLA: The Bruins need to slow down San Jose State's running game. ... Arizona State: It probably should have been easier than a 37-30 overtime win, but the Sun Devils will take it. Especially because it came on a national stage. ... Here's what they have to say about that game. ... Arizona: Wildcat fans aren't happy today.

• That's it for this morning. We'll be back before the game with some more thoughts on what we expect to happen in the game today. And remember, we do a lot of tweeting at vinceg55. And by the way, you are the winner Hawaiicoug. Way to go. Until then ...
