WSU en route to San Diego

Sitting in SeaTac waiting for my flight to San Diego, just like a bunch of Washington State supporters. That group includes president Elson S. Floyd. He's got a bit larger entourage than I – mine includes a carry-on and computer bag. Bet he doesn't have to write a blog post either. Read on.

• Washington State: We had our story this morning on the challenge of stopping San Diego State running back Ronnie Hillman, a shorter version of which ran in the Seattle Times. We'll have a piece for tomorrow on preparing for a SDSU defense that has not played anything but triple-option teams this season. ... Our John Blanchette got a hold of former WSU athletic director Jim Sterk in San Diego and filed this column. ... Freelancer Howie Stalwick has this piece on C.J. Mizell. ... Mizell is also the subject of Brian Floyd's third segment in his 1,493-part series on the change in WSU's football program. ... Washington State from a San Diego perspective. ... One final note. I know Paul Wulff mentioned Jeff Tuel on a Seattle radio station Thursday, saying he should be cleared in about three weeks. Not that he will be cleared. Tuel will be examined next week to see how far the healing has progressed. I talked with him a bit yesterday and he really wants to get back on the field, of course. He's throwing when he can (holding his left arm close to his chest) and riding the bike like Lance Armstrong. But he's not putting on the gear until his clavicle has knitted together.

• Around the Pac-12: Jon Wilner has his Pac-12 picks and WSU holds a special spot.... Money games? What's the big deal? ... Washington: The Huskies left for Nebraska a day early (seems to be somewhat of a trend around the conference, what with ASU leaving for Illinois on Thursday as well), with their receivers hoping for a better day. ... Oregon State: There is nothing being said about the Beavers that coach Mike Riley hasn't ignored before. ... Oregon: One Duck offensive lineman has an Inland Northwest connection; another has a WSU connection. ... California: Jeff Tedford is about to become the winningest coach in Bear history, but if his team doesn't win three conference games, he might be on his way out. ... Stanford: Arizona and its quarterback, Nick Foles, pose the most significant challenge the Cardinal have faced this season. ... Colorado: Paul Richardson's game against Cal has helped him burst onto the national scene. ... Utah: A couple of Utes, one with an incredibly interesting first name, look forward to Saturday's rivalry game. ... USC: Here is one Trojan who is itching to get on the field. ... UCLA: Derrick Coleman doesn't get the ink. He just gets the tough yards. ... Arizona State: Nothing today. ... Arizona: The Wildcats know they have to stop Chris Owusu.

• That's it for now. If we find something interesting to pass along after we get to San Diego, we will. Until later ...
