What’s going to happen next?

COUGARS

Good morning and welcome to the lone bye week of the Washington State football season. A week filled with wonder. As in, "I wonder what's going to happen with the ACC, Big 12, Pac-12, you know, college sports, this week?" We have more from Sunday, so read on.

••••••••••

• Washington State: All the conference upheaval and expansion talk? It doesn't seem as important in Pullman as improving the defensive line play and getting everyone healthy, so we will defer talking about it until the next paragraph. ... The Cougars dropped a bit in the NCAA statistics, though the passing offense stayed near the top. ... We had our follow from last night in today's S-R. It not only covers the game but also passes along the news Jeff Tuel's collarbone is healing as expected. The Cougars will not practice this week until Tuesday and will also go Wednesday and Thursday before seven coaches (the maximum allowed number) hit the road for a weekend of recruiting. ... Coach Paul Wulff not only does the conference call on Sunday nights, but also this interview with the athletic communications office. We pass it along. ...

• Around the Pac-12: OK, now we can get to the expansion talk. After the ACC voted to accept Syracuse and Pittsburgh, two schools that have as much in common with the other ACC schools as Oklahoma State has with the Pac-12 schools, the door was thrown open to more speculation. It really got going with this piece from Austin and then was clarified and expanded upon by Jon Wilner, as he is wont to do. ... There is more about expansion from newspapers up and down the West Coast. ... ESPN.com's Ted Miller offers his conference power rankings. ... Notes from around college football. ... Washington: The Huskies' offense played well in Lincoln, but Nick Holt's defense hasn't been up to snuff. ... Oregon State: It looks as if a star Beaver might be ready to make his return to the field. ... Oregon: The Ducks head to Arizona and it's time for the defense to show it belongs. ... California: Nothing here. ... Stanford: When is a big win also a big loss? When this happens. ... Colorado: The Buffaloes head to Ohio State, a team one player knows well. ... Utah: The Utes' bye week couldn't come at a better time. ... USC: For the first time this season, the Trojans hit the road this week. And it's an important game for both schools. ... UCLA: Another quarterback change for the Bruins. ... Arizona State: The Sun Devils host USC this week hoping to have learned something from the loss to Illinois. ... Arizona: The Wildcats are killing themselves.

• That's our report for today. With it being a bye week, we're going to take it easy today, only returning if events warrant. Until later ...
