Big week ahead for WSU

COUGARS

Tuesday practice in Pullman. Wednesday, ditto. Thursday, a short practice making sure the game plan is ready. And then Friday Washington State flies to Colorado for its first-ever Pac-12 game. Pretty big week for the Cougars. Read on.

• Washington State: We took our first look at Colorado today and didn't even have a chance to use the most interesting statistic about the Buffs. They haven't won a road game since George Washington was president. Well, not really, but having lost 19 consecutive road games, it must seem like it. Of course, Saturday's game is in Boulder, so we didn't even bring it up. ... Freelancer Nick Daschel takes a look at Washington State's basketball recruits. ... The UCLA game time was announced, with the Oct. 8 Rose Bowl game starting at 7:30 on FSN. Got to love those night games (as a fan). Got to hate those night games (as a beat writer).

• Around the Pac-12: The biggest surprise thus far in the conference? Probably the play of Washington QB Keith Price. ... ESPN.com's Ted Miller wonders if three conference teams have any hope (and WSU isn't among the trio) and looks ahead to this weekend's games. ... Oregon State's president talks expansion and why the Pac-12 didn't want to do more right now. ... Washington: The win over Cal was big (it came in large part because of the play of middle linebacker Cort Dennison) but it also had a big price (thanks to the injury to defensive end Hau’oli Jamora). ... Oregon State: Nothing here today. ... Oregon: Playing defense here will always be tough thanks to an offense that is only on the field for short spurts. ... California: Nothing here. ... Stanford: Grading the Cardinal's bye week. ... Colorado: The Buffs will head into the Washington State game quite thin in the secondary. ... And they'll start using more starters on special teams. ... The offensive line is thin too. ... Utah: Step on campus, step into a starting role. ... USC: Nothing here. ... UCLA: The Bruins' passing game has been shooting blanks lately. ... Arizona State: Omar Bolden just might make it back from his injury this season. ... Cameron Marshall has been the difference for the Sun Devils. ... Arizona: The young Wildcat defense hasn't been able to stop any of their FBS opponents as of yet.

• That's all for this morning. It looks like another rainy day, but it might blow through by this afternoon's practice. We'll return here after that's done. Until then ...
