A few Cougs heading to NFL camps

COUGARS

FROM PULLMAN — We're back with some links for your Sunday, including some news about a trio of former Washington State football players who signed with NFL teams after the draft ended yesterday. Read on.

First, a note about our morning posts. We're getting to that time of year when it doesn't make much sense to put one together each day. So we'll adhere to the following guideline — if something happens that is worth telling you about, we'll post. If not, we won't. In the meantime, we'll try to come up with some look-ahead football material periodically throughout the summer, just so nobody goes crazy, myself included. … OK. News. Right. So far, three WSU football players have let folks know that they've signed free-agent contracts with NFL teams. Jared Karstetter posted on his Facebook page last night that he's signed with the Detroit Lions, David Gonzales did the same to let people know he's signed with the San Francisco 49ers, and Alex Hoffman-Ellis, being the clever character that he is, quoted a Nelly lyric and posted a photo of himself wearing a Rams hat on his Twitter page to let everyone know he'd signed with the St. Louis Rams. I texted him to confirm. His reply: “Yup.” Hoffman-Ellis later tweeted: “The contract was done pretty much right after the draft, it just took me like 45 minutes to find a mall with a Rams hat LOL #hectic.” … We covered the WSU baseball team's 2-0 loss to Arizona State on Saturday, and also wrote this brief about the goings-on at the Pac-12 women's golf championships. The thrust for Cougars fans — junior Emma Betland is just three shots off the lead heading into the final round. Considering the star-studded field out there this weekend, it'd be quite the accomplishment if she finishes somewhere around where she currently stands.

Around the Pac-12 … A pair of Washington players were drafted on day three, but not Chris Polk, for reasons that appear to be of the medical variety. … Speaking of Washington, the Huskies held their spring game yesterday. The defense won the day. I heard there was a powder-puff game at halftime, though there is no truth to the rumor that the powder-puff team served as UW's second-string offensive line. … News on some Arizona players who signed free-agent contracts. … One Arizona State defender was drafted Saturday, while one was not. … Some thoughts from Mike Riley on an Oregon State draftee. … So much from Oregon's spring game that I'll just link the Oregonian's Ducks page. … A USC tight end was rather pleased to be drafted by Minnesota. … A UCLA quarterback is making things interesting. … California's Marvin Jones was drafted by the Bengals. … Colorado had a draft pick, too. … Utah's draftee met the media in Oakland.

For our random link, this story about USC's track coach is well worth the read.

All for now.
